Barbara Gydé Joins Lighthouse International as Chief External Affairs Officer

March 28, 2011…Barbara Gydé, an experienced leader, marketer and strategic planner, joins Lighthouse International as Chief External Affairs Officer. Her primary responsibilities include managing development and fundraising, marketing and communications, and the volunteer departments for the 106 year-old nonprofit institution that fights vision loss through prevention, treatment and empowerment.

According to Mark G. Ackermann, President of CEO of Lighthouse International, “We are very pleased to have Barbara’s expertise at this important time in our development. She will lead wide-ranging fundraising and development programs including the very successful Double Up 4 Vision tandem Bike/Ride Walk we started last year, and which is now an annual event. In addition, she will also be responsible for digital, social and new media.” Lighthouse International predicts a greater need to provide education and services as the population ages and diseases such as diabetes affect vision, and with more Americans facing issues associated with vision loss.

Prior to joining Lighthouse International, Ms. Gydé served as Executive Director of Business Development for Executive Education at Columbia Business School. Before that, she was Managing Director for Advertising Strategy for the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and Managing Director for Wharton School Publishing. She also served in various executive level positions in the cosmetics and advertising industries with primary responsibility for branding and marketing. Ms. Gydé earned a BFA from Syracuse University.

Founded in 1905, Lighthouse International is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to fighting vision loss through prevention, treatment and empowerment. It achieves this through clinical and rehabilitation services, education, research and advocacy.
