Met Concert

Ensemble at the Temple of Dendur

The Lighthouse Vocal Ensemble in the Temple of Dendur

In April, the stunning Temple of Dendur in The Metropolitan Museum of Art was transformed into a packed music hall. The event, featuring performers with vision loss, was our 12th annual Lighthouse at The Met Concert. Students of our Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School showcased their talents against a backdrop of art tied thematically to the musical selections. This year's theme was "The Artistic Spirit" in celebration of the museum's new 19th and 20th century galleries of European art.

Our Music School, which is dedicated to helping people from age 5 to 95 pursue their interest in music while overcoming the challenges of vision loss, was well represented with performers who had learned their parts through accessible large-print and Braille scores. During the performance, a large flat-screen TV showcased the artwork and a narrator described each painting in exquisite detail for those who could not see them.

By the end of the evening, everyone - sighted or not - was on their feet, clapping. We extend our thanks to all who attended and to The Metropolitan Museum of Art for, once again, hosting this unique event.
