How can I donate to POSH^®?

Donating to the POSH Sale is simple. Contributions can be delivered to our Manhattan headquarters at 111 East 59th Street (between Park & Lexington Avenues) Monday-Friday, from 10am – 4pm. Free pick up service is also available in Manhattan by calling 212-821-9300.

Whether your donation is picked-up, or if you are delivering it yourself, we do require that you include an itemized list of the contents of your contribution. The list should include your name, address and phone number, and your estimated value.

The procedures for picking up or delivery are as follows:

• Upon delivery of your donation, you will complete our official form for tax purposes. The WHITE copy serves as your tax receipt, the YELLOW copy is kept on file. You may want to bring a list of the items you are donating with you so that it can be attached to our copy.
• If your donation is picked up, or shipped from another state, we will mail you a written letter of acknowledgment for tax purposes based on the estimated value you have provided.

How do I value my donation?

When evaluating your donation, a good rule of thumb is to take 10-15% of the original value, or you may think about what you would pay for a similar item in a thrift situation, taking into consideration the age and condition of the item.

PLEASE NOTE: The IRS allows donors to contribute up to $5,000 per charity annually. Donations that exceed $5,000 must be professionally appraised, and a copy submitted to Lighthouse International with your donation. A copy of IRS form 8383 will be provided for contributions of $5,000 or more.

The following are Federal Tax Guidelines for charitable contributions:

$500 to $5000: For a non-cash donation valued at more than $500, you should file IRS Form 8283 with your Federal tax return. Only Section A of the form needs to be completed. It does not require a Lighthouse International signature.

$5000+: A non-cash donation valued at more than $5,000 must be supported by a qualified appraisal. A copy should be provided to Lighthouse International when making your contribution. You should file IRS Form 8283 with your Federal tax return completing Sections A & B. A Lighthouse signature is required on Section B.

What type of items does POSH accept?

POSH accepts high-quality designer fashions and accessories for women, men and children. All items must be received in clean and saleable condition. Items which are stained, torn, well-worn or discolored are not accepted. We ask that donors review items carefully before submitting them for the sale.
