Positions: Nurse Practitioner (2)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse practitioners is an autonomous, community based, health care practitioner whose scope of practice involves providing vision health care services to individuals, families and to communities. The Nurse practitioners works in collaboration with an Ophthalmologist to conduct home health assessments that include: vision screening, visual functioning, and coordination of rehabilitation and social services for the homebound elderly.

Lighthouse International will be providing training and education to the NP's about vision health care service, care treatments and diagnosis. After training and education you will be able to conduct: vision screening, visual functioning, and coordination of rehabilitation and social services for the geriatric population.

The Nurse practitioners work will focus on health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention and the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases and serves as the specialty care provider and consultant in a home and community based settings.

Requirements: Masters Degree with Adult or Geriatric NYS Certification

Position: Director, Mental Health Services

Location: Manhattan

POSITION SUMMARY: Directs psychotherapy services and referral activities to respond to and build a referral base.

Essential Functions: Evaluates existing treatment models and recommends and implements modifications to meet the needs of the clients. Responsible for recruiting, training, and retaining high quality staff. Develops and monitors budgets to assure cost-effective, high quality services along with meeting productivity and quality assurance standards and maintaining client satisfaction. Collaborates with fund development, marketing, education and research activities.

Education: LCSW/Master's degree in Administration, Community Development or Human Service area or Psychiatric Nurse.

Work Experience: Minimum of five years progressive leadership experience in managing, developing resources and leadership. Minimum 2 years experience working with Office of Mental Health regulations and experienced with Article 31. Demonstrated experience in community outreach, networking and public speaking. Strong analytical and communication skills, including computer literacy.

Job Summary: Identifies, evaluates and implements the individualized instructional and training needs for blind and partially sighted persons, as assigned, to meet each Client's goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Works as part of interdisciplinary vision rehabilitation team to meet an individual client's goals and objectives. Develops individualized teaching plans (for the client and their family) and works closely with inter- and intradepartmental staff in implementing such plans. Follows agency curriculum and teaching methods to ensure effective and updated teaching techniques. Participates in staff conferences, workshops and in-service training programs to ensure and enhance improvement of consumer services and for continued professional growth. Compiles necessary and appropriate statistical consumer information for responsible program accountability and in conformance to agency requirements and those of third party funders.

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with proof of specialized training in Orientation and Mobility Skills. Current ACVREP certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist; Multi ACVREP certifications preferred;

Work Experience: Minimum of one year's experience as an orientation and mobility specialist preferred. Computer literate; Demonstrated oral and writing skills; Ability to maintain a flexible schedule.

Positions: Government Affairs and Policy Manager

Location: Manhattan

Position Summary: Reporting to the the Senior Vice President for Policy and Professional Affairs, the Government Affairs and Policy Manager will promote and develop our state and federal advocacy programs focusing on legislative analysis, grassroots and direct advocacy.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate state and federal legislative efforts, including advocacy, researching and tracking legislation, staffing legislative briefings and some lobbying to promote Lighthouse policy agenda.
  • Assists in advancing Lighthouse International's national, state, and local legislative goals, including strategic planning and developing key messages.
  • Coordinates efforts with our state and federal lobbyists in reaching elected/appointed officials and their staff to inform them of Lighthouse's work and to support our advocacy agenda.
  • Manages partnerships and relationships with key Lighthouse stakeholders, including advocacy organizations, legislative caucuses and working groups.
  • Represents the Lighthouse at meetings, conferences and lobby visits.
  • Coordinates grassroots communications utilizing the Capwiz software, to enhance the Lighthouse policy/advocacy efforts and oversees advocacy content for website.
  • Writes position papers, articles for online and other external and internal communication vehicles and prepares briefing materials.
  • Staffs Policy Committee and assists SVP for Policy and Professional Affairs in a variety of management tasks.

Requirements:

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Knowledge of state and federal government processes and lobbying strategies
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to work on multiple projects
  • Knowledge of healthcare, geriatric or disability issues a plus

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, government or related fields.

Work Experience: 3 - 5 years experience in policy and legislative arena.
